Most children will wake up tomorrow morning with Christmas surprises under the tree, but some local kids got a special delivery from Santa a day early. The Salvation Army, Two Men and A Truck, WISH-TV8, and Santa himself delivered new bikes to 3 families this morning. The 3rd annual Christmas Eve bike delivery is part of The Salvation Army’s Toy Shop and the WISH-Tree program.
“The children are always surprised and excited to see me, especially since they’re not expecting me until later tonight,” said Santa.
For one special boy, the gift was an extra blessing. Philip, who just turned 9, has been battling cancer which has only recently gone into remission. “He’s just now strong enough to do things like run and ride a bike. This is a blessing for him,” said Philip’s Mom.
“This was my first year doing the bike deliveries,” said WISH-TV8’s Lauren Lowrey. “The kids were a little shy, but they all had big smiles on their faces and you could tell they were excited.”
For 11 years, The Salvation Army and WISH-TV have teamed up to collect and distribute toys to area families in need. This year nearly 800 families benefited for the annual Toy Shop program, including the 3 families that received bikes today.
