More than 100 IUPUI students and Indianapolis patrons were laughing for a good cause last evening on the IUPUI campus. The Department of Communication Studies in the IU School of Liberal Arts at IUPUI, and the Student Activity Programming Board at IUPUI partnered with the Salvation Army to present Comics That Care, a charity event to benefit Central Indiana’s homeless children. Some of the area’s funniest professional stand-up comedians donated their time, including headliner Mark Klein. Klein has been featured on Showtime, Comedy Central and The Bob and Tom Show. Other comedians performing were Mike Polites, Marques Bunn, Mel Fine, and Troy Davis.

In addition to performing stand-up comedy, Polites is also a Lecturer in Communication Studies at IUPUI. “As both a comic and a teacher, I know I have a unique opportunity to get the word out about this important cause,” he said. “These children have no homes and need everyone’s support. A comedy show like this brings IUPUI and the Indianapolis community together. It will be a great way for people to relax, laugh, and enjoy themselves for an evening.”
