Major John and Theresa Turner

Majors John and Theresa Turner

The hills were alive “with the sound of music!” Well, maybe not “hills” but camp – Hidden Falls Camp. Saturday marked the end of an 8-day music camp for The Salvation Army where kids from corps all over Indiana were encouraged to concentrate on their love for music. Many of these youth were also in attendance at the installation of the Indiana Division’s new Divisional Commanders – Majors John and Theresa Turner. Majors Turner were officially welcomed at the afternoon ceremony where Major John Turner gave an impactful message, “Hearts on Fire – Restoring Passion”,  encouraging soldiers and individuals toward holiness.

Major John and Theresa Turner have been Salvation Army officers for 23 years, commissioned to the Messenger of Joy Session.   They have held appointments as Corps Officer in Niles, Michigan; Chicago (Belmont-Lakeview), Illinois; and Champaign, Illinois.  They held administrative appointments at Divisional Headquarters in Chicago, Kansas City and St. Louis.  Major John Turner was the General Secretary in the Eastern Michigan Division and Major Theresa Turner was the Divisional Women’s Ministry Secretary.

Prior to officership in The Salvation Army, Major Turner was a self-employed private contractor in St. Louis, Missouri.  He grew up in The Salvation Army Church where he met and married his wife, Major Theresa Turner.  They have two grown children.  Their daughter, Dawn, lives in Macomb, Michigan, and is engaged to Dr. William Bennett. Their son, Joshua, resides in Villa Park, Illinois, with his wife, and is an Elementary School Music Teacher in the Aurora School District.

We encourage you to pray for Majors John and Theresa Turner as they begin their ministry of providing oversight for The Salvation Army in the Indiana Division.
