It’s November, and whether you’re starting your Christmas shopping or gearing up for the next Colts game, the thrill of the season trumps the nippy air and gusty weather. At The Salvation Army, we’re also busy preparing for another busy holiday season. From coordinating hundreds of volunteers to putting a shine on all our red kettles, we are ready for our biggest fundraising effort of the year, the annual Red Kettle Christmas Campaign.
The Salvation Army is an international organization, but each District raises the funds that it needs to operate its own Corps, food pantries, shelters, recovery centers and special programs that help children and adults in need in each of its communities.
This is a big task, as you can imagine. A look at a just few of the Central Indiana numbers from 2013 tell the tale clearly:
- Over 458,000 meals served to the hungry in our community
- More than 106,000 nights of shelter provided
- Almost 3,000 homeless and abused women and children received care at our Shelter for Women and Children
- 3,775 men and women struggling with addictions received residential treatment at our Harbor Light Center
- Over 1,800 women and children fleeing domestic violence found safety and shelter through our Emergency bed Space Program
This is why our Red Kettle Christmas Campaign is so important to our fundraising efforts at The Salvation Army. Last year our friends and neighbors throughout Central Indiana donated more than $3.1 million to help out those in our community who are in the most need.
Every day we are grateful for the generosity and compassion of our fellow Hoosiers. As we approach the 2013 campaign kickoff, we know that we can count on our community to step up once more and help us to reach our 2013 goal of $3.2 million.
Join us at Indiana Divisional Headquarters on November 13 at 11:15 a.m. for our official Red Kettle Christmas Campaign Kickoff. Enjoy live music, meet local dignitaries and listen to heartwarming stories about how your donations help members of our community get back on their feet.
Thank you to our official Red Kettle Christmas Campaign Kickoff sponsor, Walmart, and to all the hardworking volunteers who help The Salvation Army do the most good during the Christmas season and throughout the year. And when you see the red kettles appear this month, just remember…
