The weather was not kind to us outside Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday but Colts fans came through once again. It was time again for our partners from WISH-TV to ring in the toys for the Angel Tree Toy Collection. WISH-TV8 personalities like Eric Halvorson, Angela Buchman, Scott Sander, Debby Knox and others stood strong against the frigid temps and gusty winds leading up to the Colts vs. Dallas kick-off while greeting fans and offering free Colts autographed posters for any toy donation.
In addition to the WISH-TV staff, about 35 volunteers with foot warmers donated by 3m manned the collection bins at every gate along with cash donation buckets. Some of them have been coming back every year, such as a father/daughter team who were the lucky recipients of a pair of donated Colts tickets. It happens every year – that a few fans donate their extra tickets which are then passed along to our loyal volunteers. This year, it was a much deserved reward for braving the brutal winds for nearly 3 hrs.
Despite the bitter cold, the toy collection was a huge success – bringing in 2,550 toys and $3,434 in cash donations which will then be used to shop for additional toys to make Christmas a little brighter for the boys and girls who receive assistance from our Toy Shop. Thank you WISH-TV8 staff and our volunteers for your hard work at Lucas Oil for the Angel Tree Toy Collection! We’d also like to thank Two Men & A Truck for providing a truck and helpers to load all those toys!
