Most 12-year-olds are finishing up their Christmas lists, but collecting gifts for children who might otherwise received nothing this Christmas was on the mind of Zionsville Middle School student Jake Iery. As a member of the National Junior Honor Society, Iery wanted to fulfill his community service project while helping children in need.
Iery made flyers for his Zionsville subdivision, telling neighbors of his plans to collect toys to help The Salvation Army’s Toy Shop. On Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009 Iery and his father went through their neighborhood to collect 180 toys for the toy drive.
Thanks to Iery and many other generous donors, toys will be available to families who requested Christmas assistance this year from The Salvation Army. Distribution of the toys will be Thursday, Dec. 17 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.
